Due to the cancellation of school because of COVID-19, I wasn't able to use the editing platforms that I would've had access to in order to put the finishing touches on my submission. If I had InDesign, I would use it to fix my page number branding on my article to match the table of contents and my cover title. Branding throughout the magazine is very important to keep the name of the magazine in front of the reader as much as possible. This is beneficial because next time they see magazines in a store, they will recognize my title and be more drawn to purchasing my magazine.
Overall, I am very proud of how my magazine turned out. The process required a lot of learning which in turn produced a product that I can be really proud of. My first draft of this project seemed decent to me, a novice at editing, but the end result was so much better and showed so much improvement on my skills. I really liked the change from my first draft of my Table of Contents to the final product. The original TOC was flashy didn't follow many conventions. When I focused more on taking advantage of white space instead of vibrant colors, it became much more professional. My teacher explained to me that magazines really value the use of white space because printing full pages of color is really expensive. This made complete sense so I opted away from my green and orange page to a white page with some colorful pictures to add some pop. I also see a lot of growth in my article. The layout is much more professional now with the text wrapping around the pictures in a really precise way. This is thanks to my learning of Indesign and its features. Although I found Indesign to be rather difficult, it created a good product and I know much more about it than I did when I started. My cover had minor adjustments throughout the process, but they were important. It was a challenging task to decide what branding I wanted in regards to my title but finally settling on the two different fonts put together in a really fun way was a great addition to the magazine. I think it work really well as it stands out really well on the cover and the fancy 'savory' font is sure to be an eye grabber.
