For my article, I featured interviews from multiple friends on two restaurants: JPAN and Kazu 2.0. I was able to use five pictures from my photo shoot in the article which I think makes it look very professional. I chose to make the title green to match the green background of the table of contents. I also used a bold font for the article to look nicer than a regular school font like Times New Romans.

Article Change

I have decided to change my article to the "Resident's Recommendations." In the article, I will discuss the favorite Japanese restaurants of  Sarasota locals. The reason for this change is because when I went to do my photo shoots, I got the impression that asking questions of the employees would interfere with their work. I wanted to make sure I wasn't disrupting the workday for the employees and I thought this would be another good article idea. With this article, I will be able to ask my friends about their favorite places and not disrupt the workday of the employees.

Interview Questions Change 

My questions will also have to change because I am no longer interviewing restaurant employees. I now want to ask these questions:

1. Favorite Japenese restaurant in Sarasota?
2. Favorite sushi roll? Favorite appetizer/none sushi?
3. Why is this restaurant your favorite? Prices? Plating? Atmosphere?

Before trying a new place, I like to recieve recommendations to see what items I should try. Because of this, I believe the reader would appreciate this article.

Pictures

As for my pictures, I have plenty in different restaurants around Sarasota so I believe I will be okay to continue to use those to go with the people's answers.

Table of Contents

I followed my template pretty closely with the dark green background and orange lettering. I think this color combination looks really good and makes the article titles stand out. The white lettering of the article titles is the only thing I didn't specify originally but I think it looks much better on the green than black letters did.

Midterm Submission

• My cover features the title of the magazine in large print at the top. To make it eye catching, I have the letters in white and orange fonts with swirling letters. The words are also outlined with their opposing color to once again make the title pop.
• For the cover art, I chose a picture that had some blank space to make room for the writing that I needed to do around the cover. The orange and green in the picture are extremely vibrant which is important to catch a potential reader's eye. 
• For my articles, I made sure they were emphasized through pop-ups and text coloring so the reader would know exactly what to expect if they were to read my article. The orange circle pop-up matches the color of the shrimp in the picture which seems to tie together the whole cover.

The middle picture is a canted angle to show variety in techniques.

I originally had a different article idea but I was too worried about interrupting employees to interview them while they were at work. Because I knew I had friends who loved both of these restaurants that I already had photos at, I thought this article idea was a perfect fix. I was able to use five pictures from my photo shoot in the article which I think makes it look very professional. The picture of the Kazu chef making sushi was taken from the side as I was allowed to lean over the counter to capture pictures. I chose to make the title green to match the green background of the table of contents. I also used a bold font for the article to look nicer than a regular school font like Times New Romans.

Kazu 2.0

The photo shoot at Kazu 2.0 went really well! They were super kind as to let me lean over the counter to capture the chef rolling and assembling the rolls. I really wanted to capture an image just like the first one as I think it would look great in the article to have the sushi actually being made. I really like the picture of the waving cats because I think it would be a really fun picture that is almost waving at the reader. Also, it is a canted angle which shows a variety of technique. Unfortunately, I realized later that I didn't capture a picture that would go well on my cover. 

JPAN

I really liked the photos that I got from JPAN as I got to take pictures of food items other than just sushi, but of course sushi as well. I think my favorite picture is the one of the dumplings as it looks very aesthetic and is framed very nicely. I also love the fourth picture as the quality is so good and the colors look great. Unfortunately, I realized later that I didn't capture a picture that would go well on my cover. I will probably use the second picture as my cover image for right now until I can take more pictures. 

Schedule Photo Shoot

I will be taking pictures at two Japanese restaurants: JPAN and Kazu 2.0.

Types of Pictures

• Photos with the chef- Many articles that I have seen while researching have the person who made the food featured in the article. I would love to get some pictures of them rolling sushi, cooking other foods, and presenting the final product. Because people value the plating of their sushi so much for aesthetic purposes, sushi has become an art form of sorts so the maker deserves to be acknowledged. 
• Final Product- Of course, plated sushi will make great photos as well. With all the cute decorations in Kazu and the colored walls in JPAN, it shouldn't be too hard to frame really aesthetic pictures.

Scheduling 

• For Kazu, I went to take the scouting pictures at around 5:00pm which is thirty minutes after they were open. Because it was close to opening, they weren't crazy busy and they were happy to have me taking pictures. I intend to go around a similar time to do the photo shoot so that I can take pictures all over the restaurant without interfering with too many costumers. 
• For JPAN, they have a "happy hour" which starts around 4:30 where many items off the menu are greatly reduced. Although it is such a good deal, not too many people want to go to dinner that early so normally there aren't other customer's at that time. 

Scouting Locations for Photoshoots

Kazu 2.0- This is a great location because the owners are super nice and completely willing to let me shoot here. The restaurant has such a fun feel to it with its variety of decoration including lights, statues, and so many plants! The plating of the sushi is also extremely aesthetic which will make for some great pictures. I would also like to ask to have some of the employees and owners in some pictures presenting the plates. Many articles I have seen show the people behind the food and because they have proven to be so nice, I think they would be the perfect ones to ask. 

JPAN- This is another great location because it has both indoor and outdoor seating. The blue lighting inside will add a cool tone to the pictures which I think will make them very visually pleasing to the reader. They also have huge portions as seen by the fried rice picture, this will make for great photos. I plan to take pictures both indoors and outdoors to add variety. 

Scheduling Interviews and Developing Questions

I have decided to do my article on interviewing employees at two Japanese restaurants in Sarasota: JPAN and Kazu 2.0.

I will go in to do the interviews at the same time that I do my photo shoot. In order to not distract from taking care of costumers, I will have the questions written out and will ask for them to write their answers whenever they get the chance.

Questions

• How long has Kazu 2.0 or JPAN been open?
• What's your personal favorite thing on the menu? 
• What is your restaurant's specialty? 

Explanation

Readers would like to know this because not only do costumers want to see how the food looks, but they want recommendations for what to order if its new to them. With these answers, the reader will know two different things that they can try on the menu that are bound to be delicious. 

Flat Plan

• I have a wide variety of articles listed in my flat plan. I wanted to do multiple variations of "At Home" cooking as my family loves to roll our own sushi and do hibachi. I also wanted to make sure many articles are very Florida centered to make sure it matched with the magazine. To do this, I have articles about fresh fish caught in Florida and Florida inspired Rolls, for example, a Tampa Roll.

3. Getting Close with the Chef

• For the ads, I noticed that at the beginning of magazines there are a lot of ads before any articles start. Because of this, pages 1-7 are all ads leading to the table of contents. I also noticed that a lot of times, ads separate articles that are multiple pages, but not every time. So, the majority of my articles are separated by ads but I didn't do this every time.

Table of Contents Template

• The template of my table of contents is inspired by the summer edition of Food Network Magazine. The Table of Contents has four pictures going down the center with the article names and headings.  
• For articles, I want to do different Japanese restaurants that I often frequent. I would like to discuss price, reviews, and plating. I also would like to interview chefs and owners of these Japanese restaurants to get their take on their job and their favorite selections from their restaurants. Also, I wanted to feature "at home" options as my family loves to roll our own sushi and do hibachi at home. Of course, to keep it Florida themed, I am going to add articles about the fresh Florida fish and Florida inspired rolls. 
• For the headings between different sets of articles, I want to do bold orange. I am planning on a dark green background so I think the orange will stand out nicely. This is seen in the Food Network Magazine with all the headings being bold and colorful to stand out against the black article names. 

Cover Template

• The title is "Savory Sarasota" because my group wanted to focus on all the different types of restaurants that our city has to offer. The catchy title will draw the reader's focus and also let them know exactly what they can expect in regards to the content of the magazine. 
• The font for the title is bold just like other magazines we have looked at, for example, Food Network. Because I will have a picture covering the whole cover, The black color of the writing will show up easily of the picture. 
• I would like to also had text bubbles in different colors to add to the eye catching element of the cover. Many magazines such as Food and Wine, feature these popups to draw attention to important articles in the magazine.
